Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, [that] I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
2:30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
2:32 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
2:18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

So what is the Spirit of Prophecy? Are there messages today that are modern?

The "Spirit of prophecy" means messages from heaven given to you in a dream or when you are awake in a voice you can hear. Little Samuel in the temple was sleeping when he heard his name called. He thought it was the voice of Eli and he ran to ask what he needed. After three times, Eli told him how to answer God respectfully. He said "Speak Lord for your servant is listening."

God's voice scares people who are disobedient. God cannot talk to those who are not obeying the commandments. God cannot talk to those who don't obey the truth they have. It scares them too bad to hear from God. They don't like Him very much anyway if they aren't obeying Him.

In Psalms 66, David said if he had some hidden sin that he wanted to keep doing, the Lord would not listen to him.

"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me; But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer." Psalms 66:18-19

Why does God send dream messages anyway?

The Bible says He does it to tell what He is going to do. Amos 3:7

The Bible says these messages are for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for edifying all the His people.  Ephesians 4: 11 & 12

What does "edifying" mean? It means to teach, to improve, to enlighten and to establish.

These dreams are messages to encourage people to keep trusting God, to read their Bibles, and keep working for Him. It is another way to promise help to those who love Him.

In the old testament many prophet stories are recorded. Joseph saw dreams as a young child. He was hated after he told his dreams. He wondered what the dreams meant. It was about his own family and the future events many years from that time. Satan gets angry when secrets are shared from heaven. Joseph was hated by his brothers and misunderstood yet loved dearly by his father. His own mother was dead. He only had God to turn to for comfort. Genesis 41:12
February 12, 1999

9 year old Son Kyle had a dream on Feb. 12 of 1999. He came running to find his mom as soon as he woke up. He could do nothing else until he had told of his exciting dream. He knew it was a special dream with meaning. His eyes sparkled as he shared it then later sketched a picture which I kept in my prayer journal. To this day he still remembers that impressive dream and designed graphics to illustrate what he saw.

There were thousands of hands reaching up, Kyle could not count them all. They were reaching for the blue Bible lesson books his mother had made for children. We had given thousands away in different countries. Kyle heard his mom's voice saying "FREE Bible lessons, FREE Bible lessons."

He saw the world with people running to get their copy of the Bible lessons.

Then he saw the Revelation 12:1 woman that represented the church with 12 stars about her head, the sun clothing her, and the moon under her feet. This is the graphic Kyle's mom had designed for the Revelation studies she had put on the web site the year before. Kyle knew his mom had been the model for the picture using a picture of when she was carrying little sister Jenny. He understood the symbol was of God's people sharing the light of truth they were given from heaven.

While Kyle watched, he saw many hands outstretched wanting Bible lessons.
He noticed a translator right to his mother's side. This translator he recognized  on a mission trip to Mexico one month later. (Erik)
He saw the number of stars starting at 12. He said the number of stars increased until there were 45 stars.
He heard a deep voice that said, "Go ye therefore into all nations and teach the gospel, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit."
Then a light came down from heaven onto the Bible lessons.

These Bible lessons books are color books with forty lessons in them. They have over 220 pages.  We did make them available in 1998 for we had a donation enabling us to give away 2,000 copies. In 2 months we had more requests from our web site than we had books.

When God makes funds available we will again offer this. For now, as of last year, we have done the whole set in color on the web site. These are available on CD. We begin each lesson with a nature story. Often you can find a video clip that we have filmed of some creature. Computer animations are also done. There is a scripture song that you can listen to, and a quiz at the end of the Bible lesson. Lesson 20 has also a health lesson to go with each of the other lessons studied.

WHY DID GOD SEND THIS DREAM? Was it so we could brag? The Bible says these messages are for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for edifying all the His people.  Ephesians 4: 11 & 12

NO we do not brag. We praise God for the encouragement during a time of three great losses. The next month after the dream we lost a whole shipment of Bible lessons headed into Mexico for use at a big evangelistic series. The shipment was detained in Mexico City and never recovered. We sustained tremendous loss and sorrow. Yet we trust that those lessons were treasured by people who never would have gotten them if they had not been stolen. I felt like giving up but God encouraged me to keep up doing His work He called me to do.

Next in March of 1999, while in Mexico doing our work, hoping for the thousand dollars of lessons to arrive, news came of my younger sister Julie being diagnosed with cancer. My sister Jeanie and I hugged each other and cried. It was all we could do to finish our Bible Gospel series and rush home to help our dying sister Julie. We had waves of grief when she died in our arms just 45 days after her diagnosis of having colon cancer which had spread to all her lymph nodes. Tears flow unexpectedly even today when we think about our dear Julie. She waits till that resurrection morning when God's trumpet will call. His voice will awaken my sleeping sister.

The day after her funeral in April-May 1999, our own family went through bankruptcy, lost our home and had to camp in tents. It was very very difficult starting over. My back gave out and I could not even walk. The pain was so awful, I just rested in the tent and could not move. I really felt like giving up on everything. I could see no way to keep the Bible lesson web sites going for it cost over 100 dollars a month. God impressed my dear auntie to carry the costs of the whole thing. She has faithfully sponsored it every month.
You know what? Most people pay money to camp. We got to do it every day for 12 months.  Now we camp in an old leaky moldy trailer till we can build. We praise God for the dear people who loaned us this shelter. The rain came into the tents. The clothes molded and so did all the bedding. The beds were cold and damp. My piano was ruined. Twenty two keys stuck. Sometimes I wanted to give up. Storms were louder and we longed for heaven MORE. Jesus heard from us more often. I learned to trust in Jesus through it all.
No one understood like Jesus. Friends failed us, relatives misunderstood. Few wanted to visit us. Yet some very special people came and helped us. My cousins who lived near by and a couple friends came from Portland. The most important in the world camped with us.  Jesus camped with us along with all His troops of angels. The dream gave us hope. We still did missionary trips while camping in tents. Satan probably hoped if he took all from us, we would stop going on volunteer mission trips. Like Job, we hung on in faith knowing God loves us.
I learned to be content. Like Paul said in Philipians 4:11, I have lived in beautiful homes and in poverty and am content just to know my Jesus leads me. I have eaten in the fanciest banquets with doctor colleagues and I have gone hungry but am content that in whatever state I am in, to have the KING OF THE UNIVERSE there makes it a palace for me. "Better than a title to the noblest mansion on this earth is a title to the mansions our Lord has gone to prepare" COL 374

The joy of Lord is my strength. He gives me living water and I thirst no more.

As I have shared my story with thousands, the question is asked why we camped. Would it not have been better to live in a nice home? With conveniences, couldn't we have accomplished more for Jesus? They missed the fact that we were financially wiped out. No loans, credit cards or rentals were available to us. We had been terribly wronged by Dr. Kai. We had school loans and responsibilities which new laws had prevented their discharge in bankruptcy. We never could start over with a clean start. Medical school loan payments are higher than any rent or home mortgage. God had led us to make a move in 1997 in starting to purchase inexpensive scab land. That was such a blessing for we did not have to go live under a bridge. God had a safe place for us to camp and start over. The children treasure the memory of tent camping as the best years of their growing up. They got to hear dad and mom sing them to sleep and tell them more stories. God has always provided. We have learned so many lessons in humility and in value of others. We have discovered that the friendship of people is often based on what you have or how you live. We can see things now that we never saw before. We can bless people we never would have associated with. No wonder Jesus chose to live in poverty when He came. No wonder He said it is like a camel going through the eye of a needle for a rich person to enter heaven. We never knew we had been blinded by our nice clothes and homes. I asked God to do whatever He needed to in order to save us. Job was considered extremely wealthy yet he loved and served God. I find it most interesting that  it was during his losses that his character showed it's true gold. It is the time of his losses that everyone refers to. The deepest lessons and encouragement to others comes out of the part of his life where he lost it all. I have camped in the book of Job and gained so many lessons in hanging on to the arm of God. God has given much to me and He has taken it away, blessed be the name of the  Lord.
I tell you all this so you will understand dreams are given for a reason to help God's people have courage, to teach them things, and to strengthen them. Please don't miss this point! It is not shared to brag that we are favorites of heaven. Nobody would consider us favorite and spoiled while our clothes and things mold about us.
The story ends here. But there are some discussions of how we understand the dream. Then you can also go to look at those special Bible lessons. They are on my other web site: larom.org  . Basic Bible lessons.

Symbols in the dream

STARS

If you are curious about what the stars mean, scroll down to the texts we have looked at which help us believe it means angel guard helpers. As the opposition to sharing the truth makes things more difficult to do, the angel guard will increase. No one can pass the mighty guard of angels. God promises to do that for everybody who works for HIM.

Those who follow Christ are ever safe under His watchcare. Angels that excel in strength are sent from heaven to protect them. The wicked one cannot break through the guard which God has stationed about His people. Faith I Live By, p. 324

"When Elisha's servant pointed his master to the hostile army surrounding them, and cutting off all opportunity for escape, the prophet prayed, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see." [2 KINGS 6:17.] And, lo, the mountain was filled with chariots and horses of fire, the army of Heaven stationed to protect the man of God. Thus did angels guard the workers in the cause of the Reformation." Great Controversy, p. 209

Light of sun and moon

The light of the sun and moon is light we reflect both during the day and night. Day and night symbolize easy and hard times. God provides the light. He is the light of the world. We can do nothing in ourselves to be bright lights for Jesus. We are totally dependent on Him for the light. As we obey all the light we are given, He gives more light. As we move forward in faith, He opens the way. In Psalms 66 it says if I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me but he has heard me and I praise Him.

Translator

I cannot speak more than Spanish and English. In order to speak in other countries, I must have a translator. God always provides whatever is needed. Some times I even had to begin the evening by singing the Scripture songs in the local language and then as I began the message, someone stepped forward from the audience that God had sent that night. That person translated the message. God always provided a translator. The translator often was under conviction for their own salvation after they translated a few meetings.

Below are some interesting quotations I enjoyed studying in order to understand the symbols in the 45 star dream, and in Revelation 12, and in Daniel 12.

You may wonder why there ever could be trouble given to those who share Bible lessons. It has been that way since the beginning when Cain rose up and killed his brother Able.
When there is no special effort made to resist his power, when indifference prevails in the church and the world, Satan is not concerned; for he is in no danger of losing those whom he is leading captive at his will. But when the attention is called to eternal things, and souls are inquiring, "What must I do to be saved?" he is on the ground, seeking to match his power against the power of Christ, and to counteract the influence of the Holy Spirit. {GC88 518.2}
God had commanded his servants to build, and no opposing force could drive them from the walls. (Nehemiah's experiences)
From the secret place of prayer came the power that shook the world in the Great Reformation. There, with holy calmness, the servants of the Lord set their feet upon the rock of his promises. During the struggle at Augsburg, Luther did not fail to devote three hours each day to prayer; and these were taken from that portion of the day most favorable to study. In the privacy of his chamber he was heard to pour out his soul before God in words full of adoration, fear, and hope, as if speaking to a friend. "I know that thou art our Father and our God," he said, "and that thou wilt scatter the persecutors of thy children; for thou art thyself endangered with us. All this matter is thine, and it is only by thy constraint that we have put our hands to it. Defend us then, O Father!"

"They that be wise will shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever." Daniel 12:3
Stars helped during Deborah's battle against captain Sisera in Judges 5:20 "They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera."
Stars are used as a symbol of  angels. Job talks about stars singing. This is a symbol again of angels rejoicing in heaven.  Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
The Bible also speaks of stars as a symbol of evil angels but these are taken down and stomped on. These are not stars helping from heaven. So these are not the stars of heaven about the woman's head.

 There are both good angels  in heaven who obey God and bad angels outside of heaven who obey Satan, a fallen angel.

Revelation 12 says One third of the stars were cast out of heaven by Satan when he deceived them. There was war in heaven and Michael and his angels were sent out.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Daniel also talks about Satan bringing stars with him out of heaven and stamping on them. Daniel 8:9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant [land].
8:10 And it waxed great, [even] to the host of heaven; and it cast down [some] of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.

Revelation 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
12:2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
Isn't it interesting that Joseph dreamed about stars? Genesis 37:9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.
As the stars for ever and ever: what does it mean?

"They that turn many to righteousness" shall shine "as the stars for ever and ever" (Dan. 12:3). That is how we shall shine. The glory of God will rest upon you. You cannot become interested in a soul but that an angel of God will be close at your side and will move that soul. {2SAT 18.2}
If you want the companionship of angels, go to work

God's workers must gain a far deeper experience. If they will surrender all to Him, He will work mightily for them. They will plant the standard of truth upon fortresses till then held by Satan, and with shouts of victory take possession of them. They bear the scars of battle, but there comes to them the comforting message that the Lord will lead them on, conquering and to conquer. {CM 155.1}
When God's servants with consecrated zeal co-operate with divine instrumentalities, the state of things that exists in this world will be changed, and soon the earth will with joy receive her King. Then "they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever."--Review and Herald, Sept. 17, 1903. {CM 155.2}
Crowd all the good works you possibly can into this life. "They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever." {5T 487.3}
If our lives are filled with holy fragrance, if we honor God by having good thoughts toward others, and doing good deeds to bless others, it matters not whether we live in a cottage or a palace. Circumstances have but little to do with the experiences of the soul. It is the spirit cherished which gives coloring to all our actions. A man at peace with God and his fellow men cannot be made miserable. Envy will not be in his heart; evil surmising will find no room there; hatred cannot exist. The heart in harmony with God is lifted above the annoyances and trials of this life. But a heart where the peace of Christ is not, is unhappy, full of discontent; the person sees defects in everything, and he would bring discord into the most heavenly music. A life of selfishness is a life of evil. Those whose hearts are filled with love of self will store away evil thoughts of their brethren and will talk against God's instrumentalities. Passions kept warm and fierce by Satan's promptings are a bitter fountain, ever sending forth bitter streams to poison the life of others. . . . {5T 488.1}
Let each one who claims to follow Christ esteem himself less and others more.
In the eyes of the world, those who serve God may appear weak. They may be apparently sinking beneath the billows, but with the next billow they are seen rising nearer to their haven. I give unto them eternal life, saith our Lord, and none shall be able to pluck them out of my hand. Though kings shall be cast down, and nations removed, the souls that through faith link themselves with God's purposes shall abide forever. "They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever." {BTS, February 1, 1915 par. 3}
A gift from the hand of God awaits the overcomer, who walks in the light even to the end of the race. Not one of us deserves it; it will be a free gift. Wonderful and glorious will be this gift; but let us remember that "one star differeth from another star in glory." As we are urged to strive for the mastery, let us aim, in the strength of Jesus, for the crown heavy with stars. "They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars forever and ever." {ST, April 14, 1887 par. 13}
Our work may seem at times to be very discouraging, but if one soul is turned from the error of his way to righteousness, there is joy in heaven.
The Father and the Son rejoice in the presence of the angels. The song of triumph and victory is sung and echoed and re-echoed through the courts of heaven. Then why should we not be wise in this life, and work for the glory of God? "They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever" [Dan. 12:3]. We want that our lives here shall be refined, ennobled, elevated, like Jesus Christ's. When Christ is formed in you the hope of glory, you will begin to lay aside your favorite sins. You will fear to offend God, and you will love His law. {1SAT 34.4}
I am not studying what the world will say of me, but my study is, Lord, how shall I please Thee? How shall I perform my mission in this world? How shall I save the precious souls around me? {2SAT 34.3}
Here it says, "They shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and those that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever." I want the eternal weight of glory; I want to see Jesus, who suffered and died a shameful death on the cross of Calvary. I want to cast my crown at His feet and I want to touch the golden harp and fill all heaven with sweetest music. {2SAT 34.4} Sermons and talks volume 2

Mathew 5:8 Blessed [are] the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

The pure in heart see God in every providence, in every phase of true education. They recognize the first approach of the light that radiates from God's throne. Communications from heaven are made to those who will catch the first gleams of spiritual knowledge. Messages to Young People p. 191

Only by searching the Scriptures can this knowledge be attained. "The preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God....The foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. Messages to Young People p. 191

I Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

And all the way up the steep road leading to eternal life are well-springs of joy to refresh the weary. Those who walk in wisdom's ways are, even in tribulation, exceeding joyful; for He whom their soul loves, walks, invisible, beside them. At each upward step they discern more distinctly the touch of His hand; at every step brighter gleaming of glory from the Unseen fall upon their path; and their songs of praise, reaching ever a higher note, ascend to join the songs of angels before the throne. "The path of the righteous is as the light of dawn, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day" (Prov. 4:18, R.V., margin). {AG 264.6}Amazing Grace by Ellen White

The Brightness is only from God. Nothing in us can do this.

1.        Pray for it. Pray for sanctification of His Spirit

2.        Walk closely

3.        Willing obedience  to all His commandments and recommendations, ignore nothing. Strive to follow all health rules, all policies no matter how difficult. He will help.

4.     Willingly love even the unloving, the poor, the handicapped, the outcast, and love the rich, and the hateful. I Corinthians 13

5.        Place self where God can enlighten

6.    Look to Jesus for help (Spend a thoughtful hour each day studying His life. Do things His way)

7.    Make God your dependence

  1. Go forth unconscious of brightness, looking to Jesus not self, making no display
When the day dawns, the light is faint and subdued; but as the sun rises, its light increases and strengthens, until its rays reach the perfect day.
This is the way in which the Christian's light is to increase. We are to know more of Christ today than we knew yesterday;
we are to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior; we are to trust him more in trial and difficulty, looking to him as the author and finisher of our faith. {RH, April 14, 1891 par. 12}
Trials can also cause the brighter reflection if they are endured as a trusting soldier.
