Standing True when the pressure is on.

Joseph lived in a wealthy family. He was scorned by his many brothers because he obeyed his father. He loved God and was a helpful son who honored his parents.  One day when he was sent with lunch to give to his brothers, they grabbed him and threw him in a pit. Then one of the brothers got him out and they all sold him to a group of traders on camels headed into Egypt.
Joseph was bought as a slave by the captain of the Pharaoh's guard. In his heart he determined that no matter what happened to him, he was going to be faithful to God in heaven. Everything he did, he was careful to do a good job. If he had to sweep out an area, he made sure every bit of dirt was gone. He always did more than he was told. He knew that God saw everything, even things done in secret.  His boss Potipher decided he could trust Joseph with anything. He stopped even checking on where his money was. Joseph was so honest, he knew that he didn't have to worry about anything as long as Joseph was around. The loyalty and honesty in Joseph helped him as he did Potipher's business. Everything prospered under the hand of Joseph.
Joseph lived in a time when slaves were bought and sold as property. They had no privacy of their own and were often treated without any respect.  Joseph was very good looking. The wife of Potipher kept looking at him and wanted to spend personal time with him. Joseph respectfully went about his business without paying special affection to this woman.
One day it was impossible to avoid her for she had grabbed him by the clothing. The Bible says, " Genesis 39:12 "And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. " He told here that he could not do that wickedness and sin against God and her husband. She figured her husband would not have to know. Joseph knew God could see everything even secret things. There is nothing hidden from God's sight.
God gave Joseph the courage to run away from temptation. As he did this, the lady was so angry she made up a lie. Joseph was thrown into prison for something he did not do.

Instead of becoming bitter again when treated wrong by his brothers and now by Potipher and his wife, Joseph remained faithful to God. In prison he cared so much for others that he was given the responsibility of managing the prison where he was a prisoner.

God rewarded Joseph for his faithfulness.
  As a young  unmarried girl of teen years, my father would always check the length of my skirt. After time, I began to resent his carefulness. I thought he was old fashioned. Others wore short skirts, sleeveless dresses and low neck lines, and shorts. When I left home for college at age 19, I felt so happy to be on my own. I did not want to be so different. I shortened my skirts. I did not see what difference it made. It seemed I could have more friends if I looked like all the rest of the gals. I read my Bible and prayed every day. I had no idea what my short skirts did to the minds of those who looked at me.

I had a brother that I had prayed for. He had stopped being friends with God for over 4 years. He had been into drugs, prison, and did many things which brought him sadness. He had finally come to our Christian college to go to school. Oh, how happy I was to have my big brother at Walla Walla College with me.

He and I worked for our cousin  Clyde in the cafeteria to help pay for our schooling. One day he told me briefly that he had a friend that had very bad  moral standards. This young man had been staring at my legs. My brother told me this boy did not want me as a special friend but he wanted to date me. He only wanted my body for a short time and would hate me afterwards. The way he told me, it frightened me. I went to my room in the girls dorm and lengthened all my skirts. How thankful I am that my brother told me. I did not realize what I was doing to bring temptation to his friend. I did not want friends who would destroy me. I just wanted to dress like all the rest of the girls.

God had used my dear brother to rescue me from danger I did not know existed.

Another time in my life, I was surprised  when I  was invited by a realtor to go home with him. My husband was 2,000 miles away, starting medical school. I was finishing my master's degree at Loma Linda.  I firmly told him, "no". He never called again. I had promised before Jesus that I would love and cherish my husband for ever. I never want to break this promise. Again God gave me courage to say NO and spared me from the horrid misery that comes from unfaithfulness.
Satan spends all his time looking for ways to ruin the happiness of God's people. Potipher's wife was tempting Joseph but it was Satan who had urged her to do this wickedness. Satan wanted to destroy the faithful Joseph who loved God.
  When I look into the eyes of my dear children who follow my footprints, I could never hurt them by doing such wickedness to be unfaithful to my husband. It is a sin which ruins whole families and brings such misery to all. The only way we can be strong to resist is the same way Joseph did. He had a relationship with Jesus that he refused to spoil.

 As a doctor, I have heard so many sad stories from young girls who were harmed by uncles, parents and school mates.  If this has happened to you, do not blame yourself for it.

We should ask in everything we do, "What would Jesus do?"The secret sin of reading magazines and computer pictures of people not dressed and doing wicked things is seen by God. It is a growing addiction in the hearts of many who look like they are good church people. It is wickedness. Unless the heart is purified and people turn from this ugly sin, they will not be included in heaven. Secret sin is just as wicked as open sin.  You may think no one will ever know. But Jesus sees everything.

The Bible says that those who do this wickedness do not get their prayers answered.

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.
4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
22:15 For without [are] dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

If you have fallen into the sin of making love outside of the holy marriage relationship or looking at dirty pictures, what can you do? With God all things are possible. Mathew 19:26 God can change your desires into pure thoughts.

If you have fallen into the sin of looking at pictures and wicked filthy stories on the internet, Jesus can do the miracle in your heart. You will know that you have changed because the things you once loved, you will hate. And the things of God you will like. Things like singing hymns, reading the Bible, going to church, and praying will be your delight. You will never have enough. Every day you will want to spend more time with Jesus. You will hate the old ways of sin.

Simply say "NO" to temptation.

A business man was taken aside by a woman inviting him to her home. She explained the fun they could have. He said "no" but she insisted his wife would never know. He took out his card and told the woman to call home to his wife and ask her permission. He would do as his wife wanted. With this, the pretty lady called him a fool and left him to look for someone else.

The Bible says in James 4:7,  "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded. "

Daily repeat Psalms 51. Ask God to create in you a clean heart.

Replace the long hours on the internet with long hours reading your Bible and by looking at Jesus, you will change quickly to be like HIM.

Joseph was able to get away. Some children and  women are not so fortunate. If you have been a victim. I am very sorry. Jesus knows your tears. He cares about you. He cries with you. Do not give up. He understands your feelings. Talk to Him about it all. He can restore you. He can help you to have joy that this world cannot understand. He will give you a work for others who have been hurt. You can comfort others with the comfort God has given you.

Not a sigh is breathed, not a pain felt, not a grief pierces the soul, but the throb vibrates to the Father’s heart...God is bending from His throne to hear the cry of the oppressed. To every sincere prayer He answers, “Here am I”. He uplifts the distressed and downtrodden. In all our afflictions, He is afflicted. In every …trial the angel of His presence is near to deliver.” (DA 356  Desire of Ages, by Ellen White)

J Fear not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings. Is. 51:7

Don't be afraid of people making fun of you if you say "NO" to Satan's temptations.

J When I am afraid, I will put my trust in Him. Psalms 55:22, 56:3

If you have been hurt by abuse, and by damaged emotions. If you have been crushed by unfaithfulness in your marriage partner or if hurt by a relative or friend, God has a remedy for your pain. There is hope in Jesus. Jesus has all the answers. He fills the heart till it overflows with joy no matter what the trial. You are God's precious valuable treasure. Reading the Bible is like eating heaven's medicine.

" Yet even for those who have found bitterness and disappointment where they had hoped for companionship and joy, the gospel of Christ offers a solace. The patience and gentleness which His Spirit can impart, will sweeten the bitter lot. The heart in which Christ dwells will be so filled, so satisfied, with His love that it will not be consumed with longing to attract sympathy and attention to itself. And through the surrender of the soul to God, His wisdom can accomplish what human wisdom fails to do. Through the revelation of His grace, hearts that were once indifferent or estranged may be united. . . . {AG 115.4} Amazing Grace by Ellen White

Let all seek to discover the excellences rather than the defects. Often it is our own attitude, the atmosphere that surrounds ourselves, which determines what will be revealed to us in another. {RH, December 10, 1908 par. 7}

Do not try to compel each other to yield to your wishes. You can not do this and retain each other's love. Be kind, patient and forbearing, considerate and courteous. By the grace of God you can succeed in making each other happy, as in your marriage vow you promised to do. {RH, December 10, 1908 par. 11}

By your faithfulness and love, you may win hearts for Jesus. Jesus said it is acceptable to divorce when there is unfaithfulness. He said He gave that rule because it is so hard for us to forgive. What if Jesus makes a miracle and your heart becomes so soft you can forgive? Think beyond the injury. Think beyond this world into heaven. Imagine the special perfect world Jesus has prepared for you. Imagine the person who has hurt you in heaven if you can forgive.

SING as you go about your duties faithfully as unto Jesus.  " Song is a weapon that we can always use against discouragement. As we thus open the heart to the sunlight of the Savior's presence, we shall have health and His blessing."--Ministry of Healing, p. 254. (1905) {Ev 499.4}

More Bible texts regarding the moral standard involved in adultery

1. King Solomon, a man who had hundreds of wives and concubines has this to say about the unhappiness that this sin brings on people..

Proverbs9:13 A foolish woman [is] clamorous: [she is] simple, and knoweth nothing.
9:14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
9:15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
9:16 Whoso [is] simple, let him turn in hither: and [as for] him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
9:17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread [eaten] in secret is pleasant.
9:18 But he knoweth not that the dead [are] there; [and that] her guests [are] in the depths of hell.

2. A sign that God has changed the heart

The things they once loved, they now hate; and the things they hated, they now love. {Mar 69.5} Maranatha by Ellen White
Has this great change taken place in you?

3. God looks at the heart. "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." The world, I saw, was in the heart of such, but the religion of Jesus is not there. If the professed christian loves Jesus better than the world, he will love to speak of him, his best friend in whom his highest affections are centered. {2SG 259.1}
He came to their aid when they felt their lost and perishing condition. When weary and heavy laden with sin, they turned unto him. He removed their burden of guilt and sin, took away their sorrow and mourning, and turned the whole current of their affections. The things they once loved, they now hate; and the things they hated, they now love. {2SG 259.2}

4. In the daily life you will meet with sudden surprises, disappointments, and temptations. What says the word? "Resist the devil," by firm reliance upon God, "and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you." "Let him take hold of My strength, that he may make peace with Me; and he shall make peace with Me." Look unto Jesus at all times and in all places, offering a silent prayer from a sincere heart that you may know how to do His will. Then when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard for you against the enemy. When you are almost ready to yield, to lose patience and self-control, to be hard and denunciatory, to find fault and accuse--this is the time for you to send to heaven the prayer, "Help me, O God, to resist temptation, to put all bitterness and wrath and evil speaking out of my heart. Give me Thy meekness, Thy lowliness, Thy long-suffering, and Thy love. AH 219  Adventist Home by Ellen White

5.Psalms 97:10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserves the souls of his saints; he delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

"I will delight myself in Thy statutes:  I will not forget Thy Word."  Psalm 119:16

QUESTION

How can I make David's experience mine?

ANSWER

We are to obey:  "A true knowledge of the Bible can be gained only through the aid of that Spirit by whom the Word was given.  and in order to gain this knowledge we must live by it.  All that God's Word commands, we are to obey.  All that it promises, we may claim."  Education, page 189

Understanding through prayer:   "The Bible should never be studied without prayer.  The Holy Spirit alone can cause us to feel the importance of those things easy to be understood, or prevent us from wresting truths difficult of comprehension.  It is the office of heavenly angels to prepare the heart so to comprehend God's Word that we shall be charmed with its beauty, admonished by its warnings, or animated and strengthened by its promises."  The Great Controversy, pages 599,600

Singleness of purpose:  "An understanding of Bible truth depends not so much on the power of intellect brought to the search as on the singleness of purpose, the earnest longing after righteousness."  Ibid., p. 599

Meditate upon His love:  "God bids us fill the mind with great thought, pure thoughts.  He desires us to meditate upon His love and mercy, to study His wonderful work in the great plan of redemption.  Then clearer and still clearer will be our perception of truth, higher, holier, our desire for purity of heart and clearness of thought.  The soul dwelling in the pure atmosphere of holy thought will be transformed by communion with God through the study of the Scriptures."   Christ's Object Lessons,  page 60

Walk in the light:  "Walk continually in the light of God.  Meditate day and night upon His character.  Then you will see His beauty and rejoice in His goodness.  Your heart will glow with a sense of His love.  You will be uplifted as if borne by everlasting arms.  With the power and light that God imparts, you can comprehend more and accomplish more than you ever before deemed possible."  The Ministry of Healing, page 514

Meditate on the perfection of the Saviour:  "As we meditate upon the perfection of the Saviour, we shall desire to be wholly transformed, and renewed in the image of His purity.  There will be a hungering and thirsting of soul to become like Him whom we adore.  The more our thoughts are upon Christ, the more we shall speak of Him to others and represent Him to the world."  Steps to Christ,  page 89

The most solemn period of the world's history:  "We are living in the most solemn period of this world's history. . . . We need to humble ourselves before the Lord, with fasting and prayer, and to meditate much upon His Word, especially upon the scenes of the  judgment.  we should now seek a deep and living experience in the things of God.  We have not a moment to lose.  Events of vital importance are taking place around up; we are on Satan's enchanted ground."  The Great Controversy, page 601

PRAYER THOUGHT

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my Redeemer."  Psalm 19:14
