Biggest Bed in the Bible
The biggest bed I have ever slept in, is the large captain canopy bed my husband purchased as a 13th Wedding anniversary gift while we lived in Kansas . My husband is six foot 3 inches and likes much room to sleep. He gets so tired in his work as an emergency room doctor. This spacious bed was just right. It contained heated water and the waves caused me to bounce about whenever he turned. The bed was more than 7 feet wide and about 8 feet long with another foot of cabinet at the head. Over that was a beautiful canopy with shelves up the pillars to put pretty keep sakes on. This lovely bed became ashes during our fire on Sept 14 of 2005. We have now a small bed about 5 feet wide and 7 feet long. We thank the generous people who put furniture throughout our home after the fire. Five beds, plus table, chairs, and lamps were given as well as dishes and all needed items to make a home. NOW I JUST NEED A SIMPLE PLACE TO COME HOME AND
REPAIR THINGS AND WASH AND PACK TO GO SERVE GOD AGAIN. SOON ALL ON THIS EARTH WILL BE ASHES. MONEY WILL NOT BE WORTH ANYTHING. I TRY TO ONLY SPEND TIME, ENERGY, and MONEY FOR THINGS THAT WILL LAST FOR ETERNITY.
(Picture like our BED can be seen below)
The Bible writer Moses tells about the bed of a violent and feared giant man that God asked them to destroy. It is not often that the Bible mentions a bed. I think of Jacob who only had a rock for a pillow and the ground for his bed. I think of Jesus who was born in a barn and slept in the food container for the animals. This king Og had such an unusual size of bed that Moses commented about it. (Deut. 3:11) King Og was so violent and shouted defiance against God’s people. A giant man has a giant set of lungs and can really bellow out his defiance. I used to do lung function tests for the conference health van in Montana with my husband and hand out literature. The lungs of very tall large muscular people is amazing.
The whole surrounding region was afraid of this giant of giants who was even taller than his tribe of giant people.
Their houses were created with such stupendous sized black rocks that it seemed impossible to ever get near them or win in a battle. Their cities were surrounded with giant walls impossible to conquer.
God led the Israelites into battle with these giants. They calmly followed the pillar of cloud. Moses firmly showed no fear and moved forward in faith against a people renowned for violence and cruelty.
After the battle was over, the giants were no longer in existence. The battle power and credit all was due to God who is much taller and more powerful than the greatest giant.
Now the bed of this giant was so huge that Moses remarked about the material used in it and it’s size and that the bed was being kept somewhere as a souvenir in some place like a museum. This bed was twice as long as large canopy bed I have slept in. A cubit is the size of a man’s arm from elbow to finger tip. Since arms are different lengths, it is only possible to get an estimate of the size of this bed. Twenty one inches per cubit is an average to work with. So we have an iron bed the length of over 16.5 feet. It’s width was about the same as our canopy bed of 7.5 feet.
Think about this giant. His vulnerable time is when he is asleep and unconscious. It is really God who gives each breath anyone takes. In the time that God decides the probation is finished for a defiant giant, there is nothing that can keep him strong. We owe everything to God.
Any giant we have in our lives blocking us from doing God’s work, is not to be feared. We must like Moses and follow in faith for God will remove all obstacles. Anyone who fights His workers end up fighting God.
God told Moses and the people not to even be afraid for all the giants would be in their hands.
Doubt and unbelief can be a giant. Pilgrim’s Progress talks about the giant despair. We are to do our duty at any cost. “The difficulties that seem so formidable, that fill your soul with such dread, will vanish as you move forward in the path of obedience, humbly trusting in God.” PP 437
Perhaps your giant is a load of debt that drives you to work extra jobs and forget to rest and be with your family. Maybe the giant is final exams in school or some cruel owner of the apartment you live in. Whatever giant you may have in your life, God is much stronger and able to defeat it.
He says not to fear, He will be with you to the very end of the world.
May God help you face your giants today and this week, this month and this year!

CHURCH BUILD FUNDS
IF YOU WANT TO HELP BUILD A CHURCH in war torn Burundi AFRICA WITH YOUR DONATIONS I guarantee you that we will hand deliver and our friends will be working on this project. In faith they have put up bricks and lack funds for the roof. They have worked hard to do what they can. There were 204 baptisms there that resulted from our meetings in February. We could not give the Bibles at that time but are now prepared to deliver the promised Bibles which are now in print, the president tells us.
PLEASE PRAY WITH US THAT WE CAN TAKE A GENEROUS AMOUNT TO ENCOURAGE THEM IN THE CHURCH PROJECT>
Funds can be sent to Missions Unlimited in care of Jerry Dawes
1617 Carson Lane, Wenatche, WA 98801
Label it for Dr. Larose Feed My Lambs , Burundi Africa project
We plan work in another village and create another need for another church in Burundi besides this one. Please write and tell us you are promising to pray every day for us. It is not easy work.
